Be The Change
Guy Talk - Mentorship For The Educational Advancement Of Men of Color
"Be The Change You Wish To See In The World"
ABOUT
guy talk
Guy Talk was inspired by an outcry from a generation of collegiate men of color who aspire to achieve success and excellence in education and life. In 2017, Guy Talk answered the call and was established to educate, honor and empower minority males and men of all backgrounds to succeed in society. Guy Talk provides a weekly forum where collegiate minority males can gather in a safe space to discuss their concerns, learn valuable life lessons, hear valuable presentations from experienced professionals, network, and build camaraderie with their peers. The activities surrounding Guy Talk aid their social development, enrich their educational experiences and teach our young men to be accountable to work towards their individual brilliance, academic and life success.
In the Spring of 2017, the first pilot program was facilitated involving 6 weeks of extracurricular activities and instructions using proven evidence-based intervention practice models From The Educational Experience of Young Men of Color we implemented increased community, business, and school partnerships, career readiness, and culturally appropriate wraparound services. A platform was soon established on campus that attracted students on a weekly basis. Students were enlightened and empowered by Guy Talk’s presence on campus. It was as if a light post had been established on campus that served the students what they had been searching for.
After successfully running a pilot program, a planning committee was formed for Guy Talk during the Fall 2017 semester. The success of Guy Talk rang loud when both in the Fall of 2017 and Fall of 20018 Guy Talk was awarded the Imani Faith Award by the University at Buffalo, Black Student Union for service to the student body. In May of 2017, 2018, and 2019, Guy Talk was honored to recognize groups of graduating seniors going into engineering, law, business, and medical professions. We are honored and equipped to serve a generation of rising leaders!

Student Quotes
"Guy Talk represents the eptiome of a vibrant, social and engaged campus. As a memeber of the scarce minority population on campus connecting with my fellow peers from various backgrounds can be difficult. Through the advent of Guy Talk, I now have refreshing, community based forum whereby one can openly share ideas, discuss relevant social issues and contribute to minority based development."

"One of the best things about Guy Talk is that it’s not only organized for the guys to acquire knowledge, but also for us to relate. The guest speakers that come in are successful men and women that have been through the tough experiences and obstacles that we may be facing now. Which gives us inspiration to see that no matter the amount of challenges we face in life there is always hope on the journey to success."
